Every day hundreds of pets are subjected to unacceptable conditions including cruel euthanasia. It is the purpose of Trinity Valley Cairn Terrier Rescue to prevent through education those conditions.

We receive Cairn Terriers in need by many methods. The best and most hopeful situation is when an owner contacts us and chooses to let us place their Cairn for adoption. Animal shelters, veterinarians and even other rescue groups also contact us when they are informed that a Cairn needs help.

When we are notified by an owner that they need our help in placing a Cairn, we ask that the Cairn is spayed or neutered and current on their shots. Sometimes that is not possible as with Cairns from shelters. Not knowing the circumstances surrounding a Cairn in need, we see to their immediate medical needs then proceed with placing them in a foster home for social evaluation with other animals and children.

As that I have mentioned children, please allow me to state strongly that neither Cairn Terriers nor any terrier is good with young children. While I realize this is counter to most of what is published, please rely on the years of experience and knowledge in the club. If you have children younger than nine years of age, please, Please, PLEASE make the best choice for the animal and your family and consider a breed other than a terrier.

After we determine the needs of the rescue, we ask that interested candidates complete an application which will be kept on file until a Cairn that suits the applicant is found. At that time, the application is considered, the candidate ( and their family, including pets) meets the Cairn and the Cairn along with his or her volunteer determines if this is the right match.

If all goes well, the candidate signs a contract committing to all aspects of the care of the Cairn. It should also be said here that should the new home not be able to keep the Cairn for any reason, the Cairn must be returned to rescue and not placed in a shelter or any other facility where its health or safety is compromised.

We do not charge a “fee” for the adoption and the Cairn is not “sold” to the candidate. We simply ask that a donation is made to the Rescue fund of the club so that Cairn Terriers that have medical needs may be paid.

If you would like to be placed on the waiting list, click here, and complete the application. You may not be contacted immediately if there is not a Cairn in need that meets your circumstances. We hope to hear from you. It takes a special, patient and caring heart to take in a rescue. Thank you!
